When you look at the Indian Map, you would observe that our country forming a peninsula, that is surrounded by seawater on most sides and connected to the mainland on one. There’s the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal, and the Lakshadweep Sea surrounding our country. To put it simply, India has an enormous coastline, 7516.6 kilometers to be specific. A great coastline also points out that our country is home to some wonderful beaches! Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, Odisha, Karnataka, Goa, and West Bengal are the 8 lucky Coastal States. Additionally, there are 4 Union Territories as well which are a part of this coastline are. They are Daman & Diu, Pondicherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep. It’s very obvious that choosing just 5 doesn’t do proper justice to the beautiful beaches in our country. It surely would feel like cherry-picking, but there are definitely some beaches that are untouched by many! To be honest, it’s more fun seeing sand on the beaches than more people on it! Let’s know about the top 5 offbeat beaches in India.

Nagoa Beach, Diu District

Surprisingly Diu is the most desired and favorable beach destination for Indians. This place is extremely close to Gujarat and the vibe of this region feels like you’re in Goa! Hence the term, “Mini-Goa” was given to it by the lovers of this district. The absence of crowd and noise is the best thing that makes it stand out to Gia beaches and gives this place an offbeat essence. Diu is one of the least populated places in India, also because it’s very small for a district. It has a beautiful low skyline. Only because there aren’t any tall buildings.

Nagoa Beach clearly stands out in the other beaches which Diu boasts of! It’s located on the Diu Airport road, which is maintained so well. So the location is really great! It never gets too crowded, stays very clean and spacious. A city bus would get you there from the main Diu town, very convenient that way. Rows of The Hoka The tree can be spotted at this beach. Which is a unique palm tree, mainly found in this particular region. Amazing right?

You can also spend your time exploring other cities instead of just staying at the beach. The Diu fort! Very catchy, as it’s a 15th-century fort. A massive structure with three ancient churches inside it. The St Paul’s Church, The Church of St Francis of Assisi, and the St Thomas Church. The nearest airport is 1.2 km away and the nearest railway station, Veraval Junction is 89 km away.

Devbagh Beach, Karnataka


In the state of Karnataka, there’s a town named Karwar. Devbagh is a private island in this town. Goa is nearby from this location, not too far away. A very thin strip of land, when looked upon from a height for example a drone view. But trust me when I say this, It’s a gem of a beach! It’s the point where the Arabian Sea and the Kali River meet, that’s the level of beauty we are talking about!

This junction point makes it a perfectly calculated spot for fishing, forming a huge fishing community on this island. The people of this locality are always busy with their work and are very friendly! There’s a lighthouse nearby, from there the view is so magical!

There are loads of adventurous water sports! There’s parasailing, snorkeling, speed boat cruises, banana boat rides, water scooters, and kayaking too. If you want to feel that adrenaline rush, you’d definitely have enough choices! There’s another beautiful surprise if you’re lucky enough, Dolphins! You may see them on a boat ride. There are clear skies and beautiful Mangrove trees to cheer you up, along with a sandy beach!

The nearest airport is Dabolim Airport in Goa, 82 km away. The nearest Railway Station is
Karwar, 12 km away.

Paradise Beach, Pondicherry

8 kilometers away from the town of Pondicherry, there’s this place known as Chunnambar. There’s Paradise beach. Truly feels like paradise, hence the name. For your ease of mind, clear sand and water. It’s an isolated beach, far from other crowded beaches in Pondicherry, therefore it’s a very highly recommended place for spending a beautiful day by the beach.

A ferry would take you to this place through backwaters. It’s a very beautiful and heartwarming experience on its own! As you would pass by some intense mangrove forests, which are way too phenomenal and eye-catching.

There are two sides to this beach, one being an active and sporty side with people playing and being involved with one another. The other side is calm and quiet and completely empty, you can decide where to be and just walk around rejoicing your time there.
Chunnambar Boat House is the place where you have to be to reach there. It is on the highway between Pondicherry and Cuddalore. You can book a ferry ticket here to reach Paradise beach. The ticket is approx. ₹200. You can’t miss the sunset while you’re there!

The nearest airport is Chennai International Airport, 155 km away and the nearest railway station is Villupuram Junction, 41 km away.

Cherai Beach, North Kerala

Kerala, one of the greenest states, has Cherai Beach. Cochin is the major tourist city from where you can easily reach this beach. It’s a very long beach, almost 10 kilometers. You would find many restaurants and resorts parallel to the beach, so It’s a pretty active and occupied beach. It’s not completely isolated, but safe to
swim, take a stroll, or sunbathe.

The Arabian Sea is at one side of this beach, with fish farms and backwaters in the region of the beach. Exploring different sides of the city feels sort of special. The communities here are extremely friendly and very fond of fishing!

If you fall in love with the place and the serene vibe which it offers, there are hotels at a very reasonable price. You can get one for spending the night there. You definitely can’t miss the sunrise by the beach here!

Yarada Beach, Andhra Pradesh

Visakhapatnam, a city located in the state of Andhra Pradesh, there’s a beach located 15 kilometers away from it. Encircled by the scenery of rocky hills, Yarada Beach is an isolated beauty in itself! You’ll get to witness and experience the beautiful side hills if you drive to this beach! It’s a very ideal thing to do.

Banana and coconut plantations surround this locality. Roasted corn and coconut water are a must to try here! When you watch the waves hitting the huge rocks, the sip of that coconut water would feel so amazing.

The vintage Dolphin Nose Lighthouse is nearby, one must definitely visit there to enjoy the perfect beautiful views of the eastern coast! The backstory of this lighthouse is very interesting, as it is known to have guided many ships to enter the Visakhapatnam Port in the earlier years. In fact, Visakhapatnam port is the second-largest port in India! Which makes the lighthouse more incredible and definitely worth a visit!
